Installing Alpagua on Windows

Alpagua-<version>-windows-x64.zip holds the app's folder, alpagua-<version>\: the program alpagua.exe, its libraries and its resources, with the Visual C++ runtime for the PCs that lack it. There is no installer: the folder, extracted anywhere, is the app. It needs a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 on an x86-64 PC.

Installing

  1. Right-click the zip, Extract All…, and pick a folder of your own: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs (type it in the address bar), or Documents. Not Program Files, which only an administrator may write to.
  2. Open alpagua-<version> and double-click alpagua.exe.
  3. The first time, SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC": the program is not signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway. It does not ask again.
  4. For a shortcut in the Start menu: right-click alpagua.exe, Show more options, Pin to Start (or Send to › Desktop for one on the desktop).

Each start registers the .alpagua export archives for your account: after a first start, a double click on one starts its import.

Updating

Quit Alpagua, extract the new zip in the same place, and delete the previous version's folder. A shortcut points to the previous folder: pin the new alpagua.exe again. Your data stays.

Checking a download

On alpagua.com, the SHA-256 link under the download gives its checksum, <file>.sha256: the long number before the name. In PowerShell, in the folder of the zip:

Get-FileHash Alpagua-<version>-windows-x64.zip

gives the zip's, which must be the same (in capitals here, which does not matter).

Where your data is

Uninstalling

Quit Alpagua and delete its folder, and the shortcuts you made. That leaves your data. To remove it too, after an export if you may want it back: delete %USERPROFILE%\Alpagua and %APPDATA%\jpfox\Alpagua.
