Installing Alpagua on macOS
Alpagua-<version>-macos.dmg holds the app, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple: macOS opens it without a detour by the security settings. It needs macOS 12 Monterey or later.
Installing
- Open the DMG (a double click in Downloads).
- In its window, drag Alpagua onto the Applications folder.
- Eject the DMG (the eject button beside it in the Finder's sidebar), then put it in the Bin.
- Open Alpagua from Applications, Launchpad or Spotlight. At the first opening, macOS says that the app comes from the internet and asks whether to open it: Open.
Start it from Applications, not from the DMG: from the DMG, it would run from a read-only disk, and be gone at the next restart.
A double click on an .alpagua export archive starts its import.
Updating
Download the new DMG and drag Alpagua onto Applications again, replacing the previous one (quit Alpagua first). Your data stays.
Checking a download
On alpagua.com, the SHA-256 link under the download gives its checksum, <file>.sha256. Downloaded next to the file, it shows that the download is whole:
shasum -a 256 -c Alpagua-<version>-macos.dmg.sha256
in Terminal, which answers OK.
Where your data is
~/Library/Application Support/com.alpagua.app/: the database (conversations, settings), the attachments, notes, documents and skills, the imports.- The API keys and tokens: in the Keychain (the Keychain Access app, or Passwords on macOS 15, shows them).
Uninstalling
Drag Alpagua from Applications to the Bin. That leaves your data. To remove it too, after an export if you may want it back: in the Finder, Go › Go to Folder…, ~/Library/Application Support, and put com.alpagua.app in the Bin.
